Myanmar used to be the Hub of air travel in south East Asia until the early 60s. Rangoon, was the best air port in south east Asia and all the major air lines like Pan Am, North West, KLM, BOAC, Air France etc operated direct flights to Myanmar. People from Thailand, Singapore etc who wanted to travel to Europe have to travel first to Myanmar to take the transit flight.
Myanmar is ruled by a military regime that has shown blatant disregard for these ideals by violently repressing democracy and its own citizens. .
